    Sandra Blow was born in London and studied at St Martin’s School of Art in London from 1941 to 1946, and at the Royal Academy Painting School in 1947. The following year she studied in Rome and travelled with Alberto Burri. From 1949-50 she travelled in France and Spain. In 1951 she first exhibited at Gimpel Fils gallery in London who continued to exhibited her work throughout the 1950s and 1960s. From 1960 to 1975 Blow was a Visiting Tutor at Royal College of Art and became an Associate of the Royal Academy in 1971 and an Honorary Fellow of the Royal College of Art in 1983. In 1994 she had a retrospective exhibition at the Royal Academy followed by a retrospective at the Tate in 2001. She died aged 80 in 2006.
