About the artist
Brian Roxby was born in 1934 and studied at Sunderland College of Art and the Royal College of Art (1955–58). After graduating he exhibited in group shows in London galleries. Since becoming a full-time artist in 1985, he has exhibited regularly including in group shows at the Mall Galleries, New English Art Club and the Royal Society of British Artists. He became a member of the Royal Institute of Oil Painters in 1993. Roxby has had solo shows in Newcastle, Hexham and Durham and participated in group shows in Yorkshire and Scotland. Solo exhibitions were held at the Hawker Gallery, Amersham (2002–06). Awards include the Cornelisson Prize (1995), the Llewellyan Alexander Gallery Prize (2001) and the Menena Joy Schwabe Memorial Award (2005).
