About the artist
Adrian Ryan was born in London, the son of the artist Vivian D. Ryan. He studied at the Architectural Association (1938–39) and at the Slade School of Art (1939–40). He later taught for almost forty years at Goldsmith’s College of Art (1948–83). Based in London, he exhibited his work regularly with the London Group and at the Royal Academy and Redfern Gallery. He often painted in Cornwall, Suffolk and France. Retrospectives of his work were held in The Minories (Colchester, 1985) and the National Trust (1994). A solo show was held at Eton College in 1996 and a memorial exhibition was held at the Redfern Gallery in 2000.
