About the artist
Margaret Kroch-Frishman, painter, sculptor and graphic artist, was born in the historic region of Saxony, Germany in 1897, and went on to study at the Academy for Graphic Art in Leipzig. Her later studies at the Staatliche Kunstschule in Berlin brought her into contact with Oskar Kokoschka, whose work can also be seen in this room. During the mid 1930s she lived in Brussels before emigrating to Australia in 1939. Kroch-Frishman moved and settled in London in 1951, and produced etchings and lithographs that were printed at the Charlotte Street Studio and the Royal College of Art in London. The subjects of her works during the 1960s ranged from depictions of Venice and London, to floral still lifes and representations of birds. She exhibited widely including shows at Gallery One London, the Kozminiski Gallery in Melbourne, Australia, and the Galleria Santa Stefano, Venice.
