Round Trip, a work by Lothar Götz, was one of four works that were specially commissioned by the Government Art Collection in 2008 for the newly-refurbished Ministry of Justice building in central London. Works by Martin Boyce, Nathaniel Rackowe and Conrad Shawcross were also commissioned for the building.
Götz has created a site specific installation of wall paintings over several floors of each of the four towers of the Ministry of Justice building. He has developed a range of designs, which are applied to the walls using flat even coats of paint. There are 51 works altogether, based on a series of repeated triangular shapes with subtle variations in colour and pattern. These striking wall paintings intuitively respond to the space in which they are sited, reflecting the triangular shapes in the glass roof of the atrium and the three-part bays on the stairs.
Lothar Götz was born in Germany and studied in Wuppertal and Düsseldorf before completing a Master's Degree in Fine Art at the Royal College of Art, London. He has had solo exhibitions at The Economist Building, Chisenhale Gallery and Gasworks and has taken part in several international projects including undertakings in Hamburg and Santiago Compostela. He lives and works in London.
