Untitled (A Machine for Living) is a dramatically lit night-time view of a deep quarry, overlooked by an electricity pylon. The long photographic exposure reveals the streaks of stars in the sky. Behind the trees at the top of the quarry, an orange glow can be seen, which is the only indication of the huge Bluewater retail park in Kent which lies just out of sight. Holdsworth transforms everyday scenes which most people would ignore into beautiful and intense images. He focuses on the margins between rural and urban areas.
