Vicky Wright is concerned with how power makes itself felt in society. She engages with ideas of patriarchy and opportunity; and with labour and mobilisation in the once-industrial powerhouse of the north of Britain. She is also interested in how an artwork is framed within existing historical dialogues and her work often investigates forces of suspicion and paranoia. This painting which sits somewhere between a portrait and expression presents a complex dense whirling of forces that speaks to these ideas. 

Vicky Wright was born in Bolton in 1967 and graduated with an MFA from Goldsmiths College in 2008. She received the Jerwood Painting Prize in 2007 and the John Moores Painting Prize in 2008. Her work was shown at Bloomberg Space in London as part of the acclaimed COMMA series. Wright lives and works in London
