  • About the work
A long corridor of successive doors is viewed through the upper glass pane of a fire door with the number ‘30DD’ inscribed at the top. A health and safety sign to the right indicates that access to wheelchair users is restricted. The placement of light switches at height suggest further issues with accessibility in this environment. Based on a lived experience, this drawing by Christopher Samuel presents a view of the 30 doorways he had to negotiate to reach his studio at university, making it effectively unattainable.
  • About the artist
Christopher Samuel is a multi-disciplinary artist whose practice is rooted in identity and disability politics, often echoing the many facets of his own lived experience addressed with humour and poetic subversiveness. He graduated in Fine Art from De Montfort University Leicester, and has had solo exhibitions at BBC Leicester (2016) and Attenborough Art Centre (2018). He was commissioned by Unlimited for Art B&B, Blackpool (2019); and has had work included in the group show ‘Visions in the Nunnery’, Bow Arts, London (2020).
