Lit by two street lamps, the desolate tennis court emerges beyond a line of identically pruned trees. Zoe Carlon’s atmospheric 'Tennis Court at Night' shows the artist’s concern with spaces that are simultaneously public and private. She is preoccupied with how these spaces, at first functional and often transitory, encourage a sense of isolation and solitude. Working from observation and memory, Zoe Carlon creates a relationship between the interior and the exterior, exploring surface, depth, figuration and abstraction
