This print after Alex Wagnon depicts the Residence the British Consul-General to Russia, in Kronstadt (or Cronstadt), during the time John Booker, who formerly served as Vice-Consul, was the occupant. On 15th July 1842, Booker received 105 guests at his residence in Kronstadt to celebrate his birthday and the ‘50th anniversary of his agency to the trade of St. Petersburgh’. A wooden building was erected in the garden of the residence for the celebrations and a band of 40 musicians performed, while in the evening actors performed. Two days later, Booker repeated the entire event, inviting some 100 Captains of ships harboured at Kronstadt. Booker died in Kronstadt in 1848, at the age of 78.
