Runa Islam was born in 1970 in Dhaka, Bangladesh. She lives and works in London. She has participated in numerous group shows, including in 2005, at the Venice Biennale and at the Göterborg International Biennale for Contemporary Art; and in 2003, at the 8th International Istanbul Biennial. Solo exhibitions of her work include shows at the UCLA Hammer Museum, Los Angeles; Dunkers Kulturhus, Helsingborg; Camden Arts Centre, London; and at the Centre d’Art Santa Monica, Barcelona, all in 2005. Islam was nominated for the Turner Prize in 2008.
