About the artist
Born in Bradford in 1910, Bateson Mason is largely known as a painter of landscapes and architectural scenes in oil, watercolour and gouache. After studying at the Bradford College of Art (1927-1932) he went on to the Royal College of Art (RCA) in London (1932-1935), where he was taught by Sir William Rothenstein. Mason later became an Associate of the RCA. A resident of Chelsea in London, Mason exhibited work widely in the city including shows at the New English Art Club, the Leicester and Redfern Galleries and with the London Group. His works are represented in public collections in Manchester and Wakefield and in the British Council Collection in London.
