In this view, showing the area around the village of Eton, Windsor Castle is seen through the trees. In the foreground, a vessel passes through a lock on the River Thames.
This lithographic print is one of a series of six, published in 1852 as ‘A Few Recollections of Eton’. The prints were engraved by Percival Skelton, from his own watercolours and published by the firm of Day and Sons. The other works in the series were titled: ‘School Yard Eton’; ‘The Brocas’; ‘The Dell, Windsor Park’; ‘College and Street, Eton’; and ‘Sixth Form Bench, Eton’. The Government Art Collection also includes an example of the lithograph ‘Sixth Form Bench, Eton’ (GAC 4775).
