About the artist
Joris Hoefnagel, draughtsman and engraver of topographical and natural history subjects, was born in the Netherlands. He travelled widely and visited England in 1568, possibly on commission from the Antwerp publishers Braun and Hogenberg. His drawing of Nonsuch Palace in the British Museum is one of the few reliable records of this great Tudor building demolished in the late 17th century.
