About the work

Country: UK
City: London
Place: Government Hospitality, Lancaster House
This topographical watercolour, showing the clean, simple lines of the Horse Guards building, is by an unknown 19th-century draughtsman. It may be adapted from an engraving. Although taken from slightly different angles, the similar configuration of chimneys seen in James Robert Thompson’s illustration of Horse Guards for ‘The Beauties of England and Wales’ (1810) suggests that this work is roughly contemporary.
