  • About the artist
Jules Lessore was the son of Parisian painter, lithographer and engraver Emile Aubert Lessore. He was born in Paris and studied first under his father and then under French painter and draftsman Félix Joseph Barrias. His subjects include landscape, portraits, genre, marine and architectural themes. He painted views of France, Italy and North America. However, he is particularly known for his British views. Lessore worked principally in England and exhibited at the Royal Academy from 1879 to 1892. His work was also shown at the Society of British Artists, the New Watercolour Society and the Grosvenor Gallery in London and at the Paris Salon (1864-67). He became a member of the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolours in 1888.
