  • About the artist
    Charles Frederick Buckley, watercolour landscape painter, was probably born in Cork in Ireland. He moved to London in about 1840, but travelled around the British Isles frequently, making paintings in Hampshire, the Isle of Wight, the Lake District, North Wales, Yorkshire, Derbyshire and Ireland. Buckley exhibited at the Royal Academy and Royal Society of British Artists from 1841 to 1869. However, in 1844 he was rejected as a candidate for membership of the New Society of Painters in Watercolours. Buckley was a prolific painter and examples of his watercolours can be found at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, Derby Art Gallery, Leeds City Art Gallery, Glasgow Art Gallery and Cape Town Museum in South Africa.
