This bust of Napoleon, produced after an original by the French sculptor and history painter Antoine Denis Chaudet (1763-1810) is one of the copies produced at a rate of up to 500 a year at the Carrara workshops, organised by the Emperor's sister Elisa, for distribution to French territories at the height of the Empire. According to the inscription on this bust it was produced for Florence, when Italy was under the domination of France.
