The distinctive curl across the forehead of Benjamin Disraeli on this marble bust can also be seen in many other portraits of the former British Prime Minister. Here, Disraeli’s eyes are cast down and his brow is furrowed, as though deep in thought. Around his neck is a chord, which would presumably have supported a pair of glasses, tucked inside his jacket.

This undated bust of Disraeli, attributed to Charles Bell Birch, resembles several of the many sculpted busts that were made of him by various artists, during his lifetime. In 1883 Birch sculpted the bronze statue of Disraeli at St George’s Hall in Liverpool.
