The Red House in Battersea

About the work
- Location
-
Country: Chile
City: Santiago
Place: British Embassy
This peaceful scene on the River Thames, painted in subdued colours, looks across the water to the site now occupied by Battersea Park. Various vessels are sailed or rowed past a large tavern, smaller houses or storage buildings, and two windmills on the water’s edge.
A work in the Museum of London, dated c.1785-90, is clearly painted by the same hand and shows 'The Thames at Millbank'. However, the Museum of London painting is currently attributed to ‘British School’.
