This set of eight panels was commissioned by Madame Becker de Rémy. She was the wife of Baron Becker, a wealthy Brussels banker who owned the house that the Residence now occupies before it was occupied by the British Embassy. The Spanish artist Sert was commissioned to decorate the dining room of in 1930. Photographs of his paintings were reproduced in the catalogue of an exhibition of Sert’s work that was held at the Palacio de Velazquez, Parque del Retiro, Madrid from 1987–1988.
