Anthony Eyton was commissioned in 1995 to produce a body of paintings for the centenary of the British Embassy compound in Addis Ababa. He worked there as artist-in-residence in the autumn of 1996 and completed a number of views of the Embassy and other landmarks. This painting of Trinity Selassie Church was purchased for the Government Art Collection in 1997 from the group of works Eyton produced during this time. Eyton has undertaken a number of commissions over his career, including a body of work produced to record the transformation of Bankside power station into Tate Modern.
