About the artist
Michael Landy was born in East London. After training at Loughton and Loughborough colleges of art, he studied at Goldsmiths College, London, from 1985–88. In his final year, he participated in the infamous exhibition, Freeze, that launched the careers of many of the ‘Young British Artists’, including Damien Hirst, Sarah Lucas and Gary Hume. Landy continues to exhibit his work in solo and group shows. In 2004 Semi-Detached, a monumental installation featuring a replica of Landy’s parent’s house was commissioned by Tate Britain and displayed in the central sculpture galleries. For Art Bin in 2010, Landy installed a transparent giant skip in South London Gallery and invited artists to come and dispose of their work.
