"Intension Extension" is a circular form of polished wood, whose internal space is pierced by a wooden wedge. The solid wood and empty void encourage us to view the sculpture in terms of space and form, light and dark. "Intension Extension" is a smaller version of "Soglio (Goodwood)", a monumental steel sculpture made by Hall in 1994 for Goodwood Sculpture Park in West Sussex. "Soglio" was inspired by a visit the artist made to the Swiss Alps, during which he observed through a mountain pass a distant view which changed continually as he walked through the landscape.
