Carol Robertson works with geometric forms, placing them within one another using concentric formations. In this work and "Zero 2", also in the Government Art Collection, she has employed a palette of pale blue, orange, black and white, drawing us into the centre of each work. "These simple shapes are reservoirs for the act of painting" she says. She works slowly, building up her paintings layer by layer, and applying more paint to some areas than others. This has the effect of altering the ways in which our eyes move around the painting, defining or transforming colour.
