"Calais-Dover" is a photographic montage of images taken by Mariele Neudecker on a cross-channel ferry journey, with the camera clamped to the side of the boat. The horizon was photographed at eight-minute intervals throughout the journey and the resulting work covers the entire distance between the two ports in small segments. Her works are concerned with the differences between perception and reality. Here we are presented with a view that we would not normally be able to see in real life. Neudecker was born in Düsseldorf in Germany. She studied at Goldsmiths College and Chelsea School of Art in London.
