About the artist
André Dutertre was a French painter and a professor at the École gratuite de dessin in Paris. He took part in the French Campaign in Egypt and Syria where he drew portraits of the officers and scholars who took part in the expedition. He exhibited works at the Salon in Paris between 1804 and 1812.
