'Ceylon III' is scanned from a 1945 map that once belonged to Chris Drury's uncle. Used and folded over time, mildewed and annotated in pen, it is redolent of Britain's colonial past, and of Drury's family history. Superimposed on it is a spore print from a mushroom, its natural patterns indicating its lifecycle, a subject that is of great interest to Drury. This circular pattern provides the foundation for minute lines of intricately handwritten text which relate to Drury's childhood in Ceylon, and his later trip to Sri Lanka in 1987. The work is a unique form of landscape depiction, not only of a place, but also of individual recollection.
