This view shows part of the Kremlin and its surrounding walls in Moscow. It was published by Robert Bowyer as an illustration to a book, the full title of which is: ‘An Illustrated Record of Important Events in the Annals of Europe, during the years 1812, 1813, 1814 & 1815: Comprising a Series of Views of Paris, Moscow, the Kremlin, Dresden, Berlin, the Battles of Leipsic, etc., together with a History of Those Momentous Transactions’. The publication was written by biblical scholar and bibliographer Thomas Hartwell Horne (1780-1862). This engraving, included as a folding plate, was plate 1 of 19.
This was among eight prints bequeathed to the Government Art Collection by Noël Marshall, former Deputy Ambassador to the Soviet Union (1986-89), for display in the British Embassy, Moscow.
