About the work
For this digital catwalk, Bruce Asbestos used video game technology to generate ready-to-wear looks. Unlikely accessories, objects, shapes and motifs are combined into assemblages of creative possibilities. Bruce Asbestos S/S 2020 has been presented via a multi-video/audio experience, accompanied by a specially produced soundtrack at Bonington Gallery, Nottingham (2020). Asbestos’s interest in creating a clothing collection stems from fashion being more broadly available than other art forms, whilst remaining performative and new.
With this iteration, Asbestos extends to the digital sphere ideas first explored in his debut A/W18 collection. Oversized structures, waffle dresses and shoes made from loaves of bread, were presented in a catwalk show at Nottingham Contemporary in the Lace Market, including collaborations with students from Nottingham Trent University’s School of Art & Design. -
