About the artist
Eric Newton Atkinson studied at Hartlepool College of Art and the Royal Academy Schools, London. He had his first solo exhibition in 1952 at The Irving Gallery, London and continued to exhibit regularly. He undertook a teaching post at Leeds College of Art in 1956, and became Head of the Fine Art Department in 1963. With his family, Eric Newton Atkinson emigrated to Canada in 1969 and was Dean of the Faculty of Applied Arts at Fanshawe College, London, Ontario, between 1972 and 1982. His work can be found in numerous public collections including the Art Council collection, Leeds City Art Gallery and the V&A, London.
