About the artist
Henry Jutsum was born in London and educated in Devon. In 1839 he became a pupil of James Stark, one of the Norwich School of painters. He painted mostly in watercolour at first, exhibiting at the Royal Academy, British Institute, Society of British Artists and the New Watercolour Society. After 1848 he resigned his membership of the New Watercolour Society and for the remainder of his life worked mostly in oil. He is mostly known for his landscapes, and was very much admired during his lifetime.
