About the artist
Anne Madden grew up in Ireland and London and studied at Chelsea School of Arts and Crafts. In the late 1950s she met the painter Louis le Brocquy whom she married in 1958. They moved to France, becoming involved with the Fondation Maeght in Saint-Paul where they met many leading artists and writers. In 1965 Madden represented Ireland at the Paris Biennale and from 1970-1979 she painted a series of compositions inspired by ancient megaliths and prehistoric monuments. In the 1980s Madden devoted herself to drawing but returned to painting by the 1990s, holding a retrospective at the R.H.A. Gallagher Galleries, Dublin in 1991. Madden has exhibited widely in solo and group shows and her work is represented in several public collections.
