Yellow rays of light burst from the centre of an image of the sun to pulsating and shimmering effect. Bernard Cheese’s print vibrantly expresses an optimism and love of colour and form that is emblematic of the period. He employed the technique of lithography, a form of printmaking that was revived and enjoyed a renaissance in British art from the early 1960s.
  • About the artist
Bernard Cheese was born in Sydenham in 1925 and trained at the Beckenham School of Art. After four years in the army, he attended the Royal College of Art from 1947-50.
