About the artist
Dominic Michael Serres was the younger son of painter Dominic Serres. In 1782, he served in the Royal Navy on board HMS Foudroyant. On 4 August 1788 he married Lucretia (died 1820), daughter of Wyndham Madden, at St Mary's Church, Marylebone Road, London. They had at least one son. Serres was a prisoner of the King’s Bench Prison in Surrey by December 1813. He died in 1816. Lucretia later remarried.
