Watercolourist Charles Frederick de Brocktorff was born in German in 1775 but settled in Malta some time before 1817. He specialised in painting topographical views of Malta and Maltese costume studies. He also established a lithographic business in Valletta. Watercolours by Brocktorff are held in the Museum of the Order of St. John in London. An extensive album of further views of Malta by the artist is in the National Library, Valletta.
