Rabiya Choudhry (born 1982) works primarily in painting, exploring the themes of identity and cultural displacement in contemporary British society with a darkly comedic approach, underpinned by her own experiences as a British-Pakistani queer woman. A graduate from Edinburgh College of Art (2006), recent solo shows and projects include COCO!NUTS!, Transmission Gallery, Glasgow (2018) and Signs Of The Times, Tramway, Glasgow (2017); group exhibitions including at DCA Thomson at Dundee Contemporary Arts (2016), Polar Twins at Giv-Rum, Copenhagen and The Biscuit Factory, Edinburgh (2015). Choudhry is currently working on a collaborative project for Glasgow International (2020) funded by GI and Creative Scotland’s Create Inclusion Fund (2019-2020), and has recently completed a Crisis Residency at Cove Park, supported by the Freelands Foundation.
