(1836 - 1901)
Thomas George Cooper was based in London and was the son of animal painter Thomas Sidney Cooper RA. He exhibited mainly rustic scenes including sheep and cattle at the Royal Academy, the British Institution and the New Water-Colour Society between 1861 and 1893. Cooper also contributed a number of plates to ‘The Etcher’ and ‘The Portfolio’ between 1882 and 1884. He exhibited a portrait etching of his father at the Royal Academy in 1884 and also produced etchings after a number of his father’s paintings. A reviewer, writing in 1875, commented on Cooper’s work ‘A smack of the father lingers about the son, [but] Mr. Cooper lighted on a pretty spot, he carefully painted it … and then he went and spoilt it all.’
