Jacob Knyff, topographical landscape painter, was baptised in Haarlem on 1 January 1640. He was the elder brother of the artist Leonard Knyff, who is well known for his engravings of country houses. Jacob Knyff was one of the first artists in Britain to paint houses from a bird’s eye view, on his arrival in the country in 1673.
