Rachel Lowe was born in Newcastle upon Tyne. She studied in London at Camberwell College of Art and Chelsea School of Art. Her work combines traditional media such as drawing and painting, with video, Super 8 film, photography and slide projections.
In 1997–98 Lowe was the Wingate Artist in Residence at Southampton City Art Gallery and in 1999 she was joint winner of the Olay Vision Award for Women Artists. Her work has been included in exhibitions such as Speed at the Whitechapel Art Gallery (1998) and The British Art Show 5 (2000/2001), which toured to Edinburgh, Cardiff, Southampton and Birmingham. She exhibited in Becks Future 2002 and was the recipient of a Delfina Studio Award 2002-2004. In 2010 her work was included in The Future Demands Your Participation in Shanghai in China and in 2011 in Ffilm 3 a group show featuring film and video at the Glynn Vivian Gallery in Swansea.
