Marta Marcé was born in Barcelona and studied at the Facultat de Belles Art (1990-95) and later at the Royal College of Art, London. In the mid 1990s she lived briefly in Berlin and Paris and in 1996, she won a scholarship to work in Lima, Peru. Marcé has exhibited widely in the UK and abroad. In 2001 she was shortlisted for the Jerwood Painting Prize. In 2008 she was awarded the Abbey Fellowship at the British School in Rome, where she lived and worked for four months. Also that year, Marcé was commissioned by the Government Art Collection, on behalf of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, to make a site-specific installation for the central stairwell of the new British Embassy and Consulate-General offices in Madrid.
