Tony Peart was born in Darlington, Yorkshire. He studied Graphic Design (illustration) at Cheltenham College of Art (1979–80) and Painting at Leeds Polytechnic (1908–83). During the 1980s he taught at several art schools in the north east, including Newcastle upon Tyne Polytechnic, North and South Tyneside Colleges and Cumbria College of Art. He continues to teach part-time in Cumbria. Peart has had solo exhibitions at the Piccadilly Gallery, London and the Vicarage Cottage Gallery, Newcastle upon Tyne. He also makes furniture, plays the guitar and collects objects and furniture of the Arts and Crafts movement. He cites the artists Gwen John, Samuel Palmer and Barbara Kruger amongst his influences.
