(1948 - 1993)
Born in Blandford Forum in Dorset, Julia Phelps’ family were boat-builders and river men – this background later influenced her choice of the River Thames as her main subject-matter. She studied at Harrow School of Art and the Royal College of Art, London where she made several paintings of the Thames. Phelps exhibited work at the Society of Women Artists and the Royal Watercolour Society. She also completed commissioned works for the Dyers’ Company and the Fishmongers’ Company. Phelps died in London in 1993.
