(1836 - 1865)
Johann Gualbert Raffalt, son of the landscape painter Ignaz Raffalt, was born in Murau, Austria. When he was four years old his parents moved to Vienna, where he later attended the Academy of Fine Arts from 1851 to 1855. After completing his studies, Raffalt made frequent visits to Hungary. He also visited Paris in 1861, Dalmatia and Montenegro in 1863, and Rome in 1865. He died in August 1865, at the age of just 29.
