Vivien Rothwell was born in Edinburgh in 1945. In 1964 she won an Open Scholarship to Lady Margaret Hall, University of Oxford and subsequently studied at the Central School of Art and design (1967–71). She has received awards from the Arts Council and Southern Arts and has exhibited her work in individual and group exhibitions in England and abroad. Public collections in which her work is represented include the Arts Council Collection, and Pembroke College and the John Radcliffe Hospital, both in Oxford. Her work is also in private collections in France, Great Britain and the USA.
