(1989 - )
Mary Stephenson lives and works in London. She graduated from the Royal Academy Schools in 2023, where her paintings shifted from the surreal landscapes seen in Bosse & Baum’s Mary Stephenson & Grace Pailthorpe: Fertile Spoon (2021) to works that subtly play with notions of human absence and presence through the depiction of inanimate objects.
In early 2023, Absent Presence at 20 Davies Street, London, presented her work alongside sculptures by Rachel
Whiteread, and in 2022 her work was included in the group exhibition Interiors at Michael Werner. Solo exhibitions include Soft Serve (2022/3) at Shanghai project space LINSEED and Suddener Than We Fancy (2022) at Incubator, London.
