Michael Stokoe was born in London in 1933 and later studied at St Martin’s School of Art, London. He has had numerous solo exhibitions in London, Oxford, Nottingham and Kendal; and has participated in group exhibitions at the Royal Academy, the Bradford Biennale and the annual John Moores exhibition, Liverpool. He spends his time between England and rural France, which provides inspiration for many of his paintings. Public collections that hold his work include the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, the Bibliotèque Nationale, Paris and the Glasgow Museum and Art Gallery.
